Solutions to Your Home’s Foundation Problems
Did you know that most foundation problems can be corrected? Although foundation problems are considered a serious issue, they are not necessarily as catastrophic as some would think. The misinformed and inexperienced may leap to the conclusion that the house will fall down or that the entire foundation needs to be replaced. This is usually not the case. However if the foundation wall is damaged beyond repair, then the damaged section must be replaced in its entire section.
There are many different types of foundation problems. Here are some of the common ones:
Cracking and Bowing – Concrete Block Foundation walls are more susceptible to bowing and cracking than are poured concrete foundation walls. There are many possible factors that could result in bowed walls. Frost and Static soil pressure can fracture a block or concrete foundation wall, causing horizontal and vertical cracking and bowing.
Settlement – Typically, a house will initially settle from 3/4″ to 1″ without damage to the structure. Settlement beyond this limit will cause cracking to brick veneer/ drywall, make doors and windows difficult to open, create unevenness in the floor(s). Using a piering system, we can stabilize your home and in most cases lift the home back to its original elevation. Typically a repair takes 2 or 3 days.
There are a variety of foundation repair systems available to repair and stabilize a damaged foundation. Your foundation repair contractor will review your specific situation and recommend a solution that will be best suited to your homes’ specific needs.
